The world languages survey

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has asked us to develop a world languages strategy to meet the needs of the whole school workforce by improving the teaching of languages other than English.

We have commissioned the Institute of Education to lead the project as part of a consortium with the University of Sheffield’s Department of Educational Studies, Language Networks for Excellence Education Partnerships at the University of Wolverhampton and the Association for Language Learning. The consortium will carry out research and develop the strategy.

A significant feature of the initial research is the world languages survey. This gives teachers, teaching support staff, headteachers and local authority representatives an opportunity to share their experiences of language learning in their area.

We’d like as many people as possible to get involved, as the results of the survey will shape subsequent research. If you’d like to participate, please visit the world languages survey pages of our website. The survey closes at the end of January.
