Special educational needs programmes on Teacher’s TV

We’ve combined force with Teachers TV to create three new special educational needs (SEN) programmes. The programmes have proved to be a great way for us to disseminate information about the TDA’s SEN research and development awards, and showcase good practice.

The resulting programmes show the progress of several research teams working on the awards, which are designed to encourage the use of research and highlight the importance of evidence-based practice in initial teacher training. All the programmes are available to watch on the Teachers TV website and feature on the teacher training resource bank.

Research and Development in SEN – Working with Families highlights three SEN research projects, focusing on the relationship between schools and families, which are used to improve teacher training. The projects include how working with fathers can help inform boy-friendly teaching and ‘story links’, a literacy project that uses a partnership with parents to target behavioural problems.

Research and Development in SEN – The Wider Workforce focuses on teaching assistants and the wider workforce, exploring ways to improve understanding and practice between teachers and those supporting them in the classroom.

Research and Development in SEN – Movement showcases three research projects that look at different aspects of movement and learning as a way to enhance teacher training. The projects include an innovative partnership between teacher trainers and occupational therapists, and how to develop trainee teachers' ability to use movement to identify, assess and address children's holistic learning needs.
