Monthly news - teachers on Facebook

The TDA’s Facebook group provides valuable advice on classroom life to would-be teachers.

Since its launch in January this year, the TDA’s Facebook pages are already a success – boasting a staggering 1,260 fans.

Newly qualified teacher Kaol Rasnarathan and career changer Elizabeth Doyle are available to provide information to anyone who is interested in a career in teaching. The pages at www.facebook.com/teach and www.facebook.com/teaching enable people to post questions for Kaol and Elizabeth and quiz an expert panel of teaching career consultants.
Those that log on to the group can also view Kaol and Elizabeth’s working month through a multimedia calendar, including diary entries, video clips of lessons and examples of pupils’ work.

We spoke to Kaol, one of the group’s founders, to find out more about the group and its future plans – and he is really pleased with how the project is progressing: “I’m a great believer in the more you share the more you learn,” he said. “So I’m really happy that in such as short space of time we’ve built a friendly online community where prospective teachers can ask the sort of questions that you just don’t find on ‘official’ websites. It’s great as the whole group has started to help each other, with members offering advice and help to others.”

He continues: “What’s also important is that, by setting up this group, the people seeking our help know that they’re talking to someone who isn’t necessarily interested in signing them up to anything – we are independent and merely sharing the benefit of our experience. We’ve already had some fantastic feedback – with some people who were first asking basic questions now asking us for interview tips.”
