Teacher's TV wins international awards

Teachers TV, a channel dedicated to the teaching profession, has won two international awards for its groundbreaking coverage of education in and out of the classroom.

Beating off competition from 262 entries from 53 countries around the world, the digital channel picked up the accolades at the international Japan Prize 2007, which celebrates achievements in education.

Teachers TV was named Best Education Website in the world and received the UNICEF Special Prize for the Year's Best Programme on a Development Issue, for its broadcast of "Inspirations: A West African Story".

Andrew Bethell, chief executive of Teachers TV, commented: "Securing two awards at the Japan Prize 2007 is a tremendous achievement for all at Teachers TV.

"Since launched, we have been committed to staying at the forefront of digital broadcasting, producing excellent and innovative programming which meets the needs of our audiences. These awards give us the international recognition that we are meeting these goals and setting the standard for education broadcasters."
