A headteacher in Lancashire has been described as inspirational by Ofsted inspectors.

Newly-appointed Alison Mitchell, who is headteacher of St Peter's Primary in Burnley, was praised by the inspectorate body for helping change the school's fate in a positive way, after a rocky report in 2006 when the school was under different leadership.

Reporting inspector Kathryn Dodd said: "Staff, pupils, governors and parents agree that the leadership of the headteacher is 'inspirational'.

"She has put the school on a clear pathway of improvement. The senior leadership team and governors relish the many opportunities they have for training."

Ms Dodd added that continuing professional development opportunities for teachers combined with their hard work is helping to "turn the school around".

In related news, three teachers in Watford have been given an award this month to honour the 70 years they have dedicated to the education profession, reports the Watford Observer.

Headteacher Ann Lawrence, nursery teacher Kathleen Mitchell and teaching assistant Ann Lyford were given the awards by the local county council.ADNFCR-1162-ID-18589085-ADNFCR
