As part of the new initiative, parents drop their children off at designated points and then teaching assistants add the children to their "human bus", reports the Telegraph and Argus.
The scheme has meant that 55 per cent of pupils in the Yorkshire and Humber region are now getting to school by foot a significant environmental achievement.
Cath Smith is a teaching assistant in the area and co-ordinator of the Aireview Walking Bus.
She told the paper: "It works brilliantly for us. The children enjoy the walk and learn a lot about road safety along the way. We teach them general road safety including safe places to stop and cross."
Huma Rahman, senior road safety officer for Bradford council, also sang the scheme's praises to the paper: "The fact that so many children in our area walk to school is great news for all involved - parents and children."
In related news, teachers at Shrewsbury's Sixth Form College were celebrating this week after the school received a grade two 'good' rating from Ofsted inspectors.
