Malvern school to create specialist autism unit

A specialist environment designed to meet the needs of autistic students is to be built at a primary school in Malvern, it has emerged.

The Malvern Gazette reported that Somers Park Primary School will undergo a £300,000 development to build the facility aimed at encouraging the enhancement and development of skills for pupils with acute special needs by providing them with a supportive location.

It added that specialist lighting and design will be employed in the unit, which is expected to cost £65,000, with a further £240,000 being spent on a specialised teaching environment based in a log cabin.

Local councillor Stephen Clee, who is responsible for corporate services, said: "I am pleased that this project is starting as it shows an integrated approach to the delivery of education for the community in the area."

Recently, the Boreham Wood Times reported that the National Autistic Society Radlett Lodge School, which caters for 49 autistic children between four and 14, was given a makeover by a national energy provider.ADNFCR-1162-ID-18763016-ADNFCR
