North Yorkshire Police is creating a permanent base at a school in the county in an initiative to bring the service into the heart of the community.

Risedale Sports Community College will become a centre of operations for the police after the two agreed a deal under the Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership Scheme.

Inspector Ian Thompson, who heads the Safer Neighbourhoods Team in the area, noted that the deal between the two organisations would provide benefits for the wider community as a whole.

He continued: "The force is committed to increasing visibility and interaction with the communities we serve, and this is an ideal opportunity for the team to have a local base in the heart of Hipswell."

Risedale College's Associate Principal, John Kelly said that the agreement was welcomed and would support young people throughout the area.

Today, the Preston Citizen also reported on David Stewart, a 15-year-old Preston schoolboy who was rewarded by the Lancashire Constabulary for turning his life around after being on the verge of becoming a young offender.ADNFCR-1162-ID-18763026-ADNFCR
