A west Norfolk teacher enjoyed a send-off from family, friends, former pupils and fellow tutors after 34 years in the profession.

Lynn News reported the story of John Stead of Clenchwarton, who kick-started his retirement with a barbeque, inviting his colleagues and other friends to celebrate with him.

Mr Stead, who started out at Gaywood Park Secondary Modern School in September 1974, began teaching as an assistant in both geography and science, seeing his first school become the largest secondary in the country during his time there.

He stated that he had faith in prospective teachers coming through the ranks.

Mr Stead said: "I remain very optimistic about the future of teaching in Norfolk as I think the calibre of young teachers now coming into the profession is high."

Norwich Evening News reported last month that again, A-level results in the county had broken previous records on good grades. ADNFCR-1162-ID-18767254-ADNFCR
