TTA supports new resource network
A new initiative to help raise the achievements of pupils from diverse backgrounds has been launched by the Teacher Training Agency.
The Diversity Initial Teacher Training (ITT) Professional Resource Network (IPRN), will provide extra support for teacher- trainers to equip new teachers with the skills and confidence needed to maximise the achievements of all pupils.
The work of the Diversity IPRN will include:
- the development of an online resource network, pooling together and reviewing existing research and knowledge, and increasing the quality and range of ITT resources available.;
- supporting networks and systematic links between ITT providers, researchers and other experts to share effective practice;
- supporting relevant research projects
The Diversity IPRN is being developed by a nationwide consortium of ITT providers, Local Education Authorities and professional associations, led by Patricia East at London Metropolitan University and Dr. Sheila Hunter at St Martin’s College. The concept for the IPRN emerged from in-depth consultation with ITT providers, to establish how best the TTA could give further support. Other IPRNs are also being developed to support teacher trainers in the key areas of behaviour management and Citizenship.
Chris Dee, Director of ITT Support at the TTA, said:
“The Diversity IPRN is an innovative and exciting new project designed to draw together and utilise the skills and knowledge within the education community. This nationwide project is being led by teacher- trainers for teacher- trainers to ensure the resources and knowledge being developed will have maximum impact on the preparation of trainees.”
