The TDA wins top green award

The TDA has today been awarded two top international environmental awards.

It is one of only two government agencies to achieve this status, the other being the Environmental Agency in Bristol.  The awards go above and beyond popular international standards and are considered ‘the pinnacle of environmental management’ by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

The TDA was selected for its Environmental Management System (EMS) and was praised for energy and resource management, waste management and a Sustainable Development Action Plan (SDAP).  The organisation’s appetite for change was particularly noted by adjudicators.

High performance was gained in the following categories:

  • Green staff travel
  • Green procurement, and
  • Recycling waste
Graham Holley, Chief Executive of the TDA states:

“I am delighted that TDA are leading the way forward.  It is an honour to be recognised for our strategic approach to improving energy, resource and waste management, which is openly considered to be second to none, other than the Environment Agency in Bristol!  The TDA is wholly committed to Education for Sustainable Development. We intend to set ourselves ever more ambitious targets and to seek constant improvement in this area.  We hope this great achievement will inspire the rest of Whitehall to improve procedures that assume environmental and social responsibility.”

Notes to editors

The TDA was awarded with an ISO14001 certification and European Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) certification.
