Teaching outside the classroom

Kevin Brennan, Minister for Children has called for new teachers to be offered the opportunity to teach and learn in settings other than schools as an integral part of their training
The Minister welcomed the launch of Teaching Outside the Classroom. This new national programme is designed to encourage teacher training providers to offer placements in diverse educational settings, including field studies centres, galleries, museums, sports centres and young offenders’ institutions. These placements will complement students’ existing teaching practice in schools, developing their capacity to work with partners to take teaching outside the classroom.

The programme will offer a comprehensive support package, including bespoke guidance, for providers and settings wishing to develop inspiring, creative placements for student teachers. Contact Caitlin Page with the names of education settings and initial teacher training providers who may be interested in this programme.

Teaching Outside the Classroom is being developed by Creative Partnerships in partnership with CapeUK, the Museums Libraries and Archives Council, the DCSF and the TDA.
