Technology for secondary mathematics workshop

The technology for secondary mathematics (TSM) annual three-day workshop will be held between 14 – 19 July 2009 at Oundle School, Peterborough.

Every July for the past 10 years, a three-day workshop has taken place for mathematics teachers. It aims to give delegates plenty of hands on time to get to grips with using computers and software in their teaching.

A talented and experienced team of practising teachers is recruited each year, and each workshop has around 18 participants and two tutors. Delegates choose two courses over the three days, so objectives are measurable and attainable.

Courses are chosen from ‘productivity software’ for mathematics and ‘dynamic software’. There are courses on Excel for mathematics and Word and the internet for mathematics. Other courses concentrate on Autograph, Sketchpad and Cabri.

There are also two delegate forum sessions for sharing ideas, and two evening presentations in the bar.

The 2009 course will be offering heavily subsidised places to PGCE students. There were 15 sponsored PGCE students last summer, and all felt they were much better prepared to tackle the IT needs of their first teaching job. In return they nearly all made significant contributions to the delegate forum sessions.

Resources to accompany the course and full details of the 2009 event are available on the TSM website .
