The teacher training resource bank

The teacher training resource bank (TTRB) is a one-stop web portal providing free access to research and evidence based resources for teacher training. The site searches over 3000 resources from a range of sources including the Department for Children Schools and Families, Teachers TV, Ofsted and a number of subject associations.

Behaviour4Learning aims to develop trainee skills and insights and foster a classroom ethos of ‘behaviour for learning’. Multiverse provides resources focusing on the educational achievement of pupils from diverse backgrounds. The English as an Additional Language Subject Resource Network aims to ensure that trainees who encounter children with English as their second language, can support them throughout their educational experience. This month, we feature a resource from each of these projects.

Supporting bilingual children in the early years
This is a comprehensive resource from National Association for Language Development in the Curriculum. It has been developed to help support trainees and teachers encountering children in the early years stage who may have very little or no grasp of the English language when they begin school.

Food for the brain
The link between food, learning and behaviour has been well publicised. The former president of the National Association for Head Teachers has urged teachers to look into the link to help improve behaviour of pupils in the classroom.

Lasting impact of school trips
An overview of an article on the value of school trips has been published on the TTRB. The National Trust has measured the effect of school trips through the Guardianship scheme using 100 schools across England and Wales.

Embedding Diversity in Initial Teacher Education - presentations
A number of presentations are available on the Multiverse website following their successful national conference held in May. The conference aimed to begin exploring methods of successfully embedding diversity into mainstream initial teacher training practice.
