The TDA is governed by a non-executive board. The board ensures that the Agency is as effective and efficient as possible. Members contribute to the Agency’s strong delivery focus and bring their personal expertise, perspective and current experiences to assist officers in:
- the development of strategy and delivery policies
- the monitoring of organisational performance, and
- the management of risk.
There are currently 14 members, including the Chairman and the Chief Executive of the Agency (the only executive member). Board members are appointed by the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families for a term of three years and are drawn from a variety of backgrounds. Some are headteachers, governors, teachers or work in other parts of the education system; others have business backgrounds. Several are members of the governing bodies of institutions that receive grants from the TDA.
