Helping the workforce in schools to improve outcomes for children
In addition to their traditional educational role, schools and their workforces now have far greater responsibility for securing the well-being of children and young people and for ensuring that each young person becomes part of a skilled, productive and tolerant society.
The TDA has a remit to help secure an effective children’s workforce in schools which will contribute to children’s well-being and achievement. To continue to raise the quality and status of the teaching profession, the TDA will work with its partners to introduce a practice-based Masters qualification in teaching and learning.
The TDA will also continue to work with partners to develop new workforce roles which support teaching; develop coherent occupational and professional standards and to improve qualifications and training for support staff in the wider workforce.
The TDA will work with its partners to provide local authorities and schools with the tools they need to support the introduction of extended schools. By 2010 all schools will become extended schools – responsible for providing access to a range of services for children, their families and the wider community.
