Funding for the GTP

Funding for training in England

To work as an unqualified teacher on the Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP), you must be employed in an eligible school for the duration of your training. Your school will pay you an unqualified teacher's salary depending on your responsibilities, experience and location.

TDA funded places

There are a limited number of TDA funded places available on the GTP. On a funded place, the TDA will pay your GTP training provider a grant towards the cost of your training. We may also pay your school a contribution towards your salary. This salary grant is only available for training in state-maintained schools.

On a TDA funded place, you will not have to pay any training fees.

Non-TDA funded places

It is possible to train on the GTP without TDA funding, if your school or other sponsoring body is willing to cover the cost of your salary. You will need to enquire with your chosen school and GTP training provider to find out if this option is available. In this situation, you may be charged a training fee by your GTP provider.

You should contact your GTP training provider for more information about any additional costs.
