Family literacy and numeracy course
Ray Lodge Primary School in Woodford Green has been running a family literacy and numeracy course as part of the local authority’s adult education programme.The term-long course is delivered in the school by a qualified primary school teacher based at the local adult education centre. Classes are held during the morning period. A nursery nurse cares for learners’ pre-school children, while a teacher from the school works with any school-age children. The course also includes a session where parents and children learn together. This allows parents/carers to see how the course can help them to help their children.
Parents and carers have spoken positively about their experiences of the course. They report increased self-confidence, citing the ability to support their children’s learning as a key benefit.
