We aim to give all support staff access to high-quality training and development that meets their needs and enables them to contribute to raising standards in schools and ensure children achieve their potential.
With partners on the School Workforce Development Board, the TDA has published Developing People to Support Learning, a skills strategy for the wider workforce. The strategy aims to develop a coherent framework of standards and qualifications for school support staff that meets their needs and offers opportunities for progression.
Some support staff roles, such as teaching assistants, are exclusive to schools; the TDA develops and reviews their occupational and professional standards in consultation with stakeholders. Other occupational areas, such as catering and administration, are supported by standards and qualifications developed by the relevant sector bodies; the TDA works closely with these organisations to ensure they understand the needs of those working in schools.
The TDA is a member of the Children’s Workforce Network of sector and regulatory bodies, which is developing an integrated qualifications framework for the children’s workforce.
