The career entry and development profile (CEDP) is designed to help trainee and newly qualified teachers think about their professional development at key points towards the end of initial teacher training (ITT) and during induction.
The profile process encourages teachers to reflect on their own teaching and professional development, and is structured around three transition points.
Transition point one
Towards the end of their initial teacher training, trainees will have the opportunity to reflect on their professional development, their strengths and development needs, and start thinking about their aspirations for the induction period. Trainees will work with their tutors, but are responsible for recording their own responses to the CEDP prompt questions.
Transition point two
At the beginning of induction, the newly qualified teacher (NQT) and the induction tutor should talk through the NQT’s priorities for induction and discuss how these relate to, build on or differ from the priorities identified at the end of their ITT programme. During the induction period NQTs and induction tutors can use the CEDP to plan and review the NQT’s induction support programme.
Transition point three
Towards the end of induction, NQTs will be supported by their induction tutors to look back on their induction period, reflect on their progress during induction and think about their aspirations for their continuing professional development (CPD).
