Overseas trained teacher programme

The overseas trained teacher programme (OTTP) offers overseas trained teachers (OTTs) the opportunity to qualify as a teacher in the UK while working in a school.

Trainees must have a teaching qualification that is equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree and hold GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in mathematics and English. For primary teaching, candidates also need GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in science.

Under certain circumstances, OTTs may be able to present themselves for qualified teacher status (QTS) assessment without further training. If an OTT needs training, they must complete their training within a year. Schools can pay OTTs on either the qualified or the unqualified teacher pay scale.

Employment based initial teacher training providers (EBITT providers) are responsible for overseeing the recruitment and assessment of the OTTP. Follow the link on the right to find your local EBITT provider.
