Employment-based training

Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) and Registered Teacher Programme (RTP) applications are handled by designated recommending bodies (DRBs) in England and by recommending bodies (RBs) in Wales. Candidates also need to find a school willing to employ them as an unqualified teacher while they train. DRBs and RBs are usually partnerships of schools, local education authorities and accredited training providers and are the first point of contact when applying for GTP and RTP training.

Competition for entry to the GTP and RTP is highly competitive and places are awarded to the strongest candidates. Each DRB and RB has its own application process and deadlines, but many recruit the majority of trainees during the summer for the September term of the same year.
