The performance profiles are published annually as a source of information for both potential new trainees and providers of initial teacher training (ITT).
The data is managed/collected by asking providers to use the TDA’s online, password protected, data management system. Providers also have access to the analysis website and are encouraged to use this to inform and monitor their performance.
Each year the ITT data for higher education institutions (HEIs) is loaded into the data management system, from the higher education statistics agency (HESA) data collection returns. HEI providers are then required to review, update and sign-off their data for publication in the performance profiles. Non-HEIs are required to use the data management system to submit their trainee level data for the previous academic year.
Employment based initial teacher training provider (EBITT provider) and other providers of employment-based training are not required to submit information to the data management system as their data is automatically transferred from the employment based teacher training scheme (EBTTS) trainee management system. They are, however, encouraged to use the analysis features on the analysis websites to inform and monitor their performance.
The data collected is the basis for the TDA’s performance profiles site, which are published in two formats:
- the public website (http://dataprovision.tda.gov.uk/public), which is designed as a tool to help potential trainees find a suitable place to train, and
- the password-protected providers’ analysis website (http://dataprovision.tda.gov.uk/provider), which offers providers the opportunity to analyse their data in greater depth than is possible on the public performance profiles website.
