The trainee numbers census is an annual data collection of trainee registrations in each academic year. The collection covers initial teacher training (ITT) and student associates scheme (SAS) providers.
Providers of employment based teacher training scheme (EBTTS) have their data automatically transferred from the EBTTS data management system. Therefore, they must ensure that all trainee data on the EBTTS data management system is accurate and up-to-date.
Providers offering ITT include universities and school-centred initial teacher trainers (SCITTs). The SAS is a three-year programme funded by the TDA bringing together the teacher associates and undergraduate credit scheme pilots.
The survey collects information on the numbers of trainees an ITT or SAS provider has registered (or are planning to register) on TDA-funded ITT/SAS courses during the current academic year.
The information collected is used to:
- determine funding and holdback for ITT providers
- monitor the recruitment of under-represented groups in ITT/SAS, and
- monitor the recruitment of new entrants against intake targets.
