The ITT tutor should familiarise trainees with the induction arrangements and work with them at transition point one of the CEDP.
The ITT tutor should also sign to confirm that individual discussions have taken place at transition point one of the CEDP. A sample form for transition point one can be downloaded.
Support and assessment for NQTs
Structured support and guidance should be provided to all NQTs. Induction will build on what new teachers have learned in meeting the standards for QTS, it will take account of the strengths and development needs identified using the career entry and development profile (CEDP) towards the end of their initial teacher training (ITT) programme.
NQTs will be assessed at the end of induction against a set of induction standards. These include a requirement to continue to meet the standards for the award of QTS consistently and with increasing competence, and to progress further in specific areas. NQTs must demonstrate that they have met the induction standards in order to remain registered with the General Teaching Council for England (GTCE), and to be able to continue teaching in a maintained school or non-maintained special school.
Career entry and development profile
The career entry and development profile (CEDP) is designed at this point to help trainees think about their development at three transition points: at the end of ITT and at the start and end of induction. The profile process supports the continued reflection on teaching and development that has been established during initial teaching training.
The ITT tutor will introduce the profile process, and support trainees in recording their responses at transition point one.
