A national conference to discuss the implementation of Every Child Matters was held on 18 October 2006.
The new standards for qualified teacher status (QTS) are underpinned by the five outcomes of Every Child Matters. Understanding the role of the teacher in the changing context is key to preparing Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) as Every Child Matters is implemented.
This conference focused on:
- the way in which Every Child Matters is being implemented in schools and the role of the teacher in the process, and
- the sharing and using of information within the workforce to ensure children’s achievement and well-being.
The keynote speaker was Sheila Scales, Director of Extended Schools, Sure Start and Childcare, Department for Education and Skills. Gerry Egan, from the Children, Young People and Families Directorate, spoke about the information-sharing index.
