The Improvement in ITT team runs a consultancy service to school-based ITT providers. Each provider receives a number of consultancy visits per academic year, tailored according to their individual needs. The aim of the support is to enable providers to develop as self-evaluating, self-managing and effective organisations, thereby continuously improving the quality of their training provision.

To achieve this aim, the consultancy support has the following objectives:

• to provide an individual service to school-based ITT providers that is differentiated according to the quality of their provision and stage of development
• to support providers’ professional development, and 
• to support providers to develop skills of self-evaluation and improvement planning.

In 2006/07, the individual consultancy programme will focus on developing subject knowledge for teaching in school-based ITT providers.
