This page explains how recovery support works and its terms of engagement.
When an Ofsted inspection reveals issues of unsatisfactory quality or non-compliance at the interim stage, the head of the quality and inspection team initially makes telephone contact with the provider of initial teacher training (ITT). In certain circumstances this will be followed up with a visit for monitoring purposes typically including a member of the ITT support group. Normally a provider will then have access to negotiated support in preparation for the final stage of inspection.
On receipt of the final Ofsted inspection grades/draft final reports where non-compliance features, withdrawal of accreditation procedures apply. Concurrently the ITT support group will request a recovery and contingency plan and offer individual packages of support.
On receipt of the final Ofsted inspection grades for grade 3 or grade 4 providers, the ITT support group will request an action plan (grade 3) or a recovery and contingency plan (grade 4), and offer appropriate packages of support.
The ITT provider can then choose to work with the TDA in undertaking improvement planning, which will be the subject of a specific agreement.
The aims of recovery supportĀ are outlined in Engaging recovery support, available in the Downloads panel in the right-hand margin.
