The TDA's ITT development group offers a range of programmes and initiatives to support initial teacher training.
Current projects include:
Support for providers of initial teacher training (ITT) and individual staff
- supporting the development of materials exemplifying the Qualifying to Teach standards
- action planning and post-Ofsted support
- grants for information and communication (ICT) development
- supporting the development of ITT resources
- commissioning and publishing research into effective practices in ITT
- supporting independent literature reviews
- working with national organisations to develop electronic databases for education
- supporting ITT staff to work through ITT professional resource networks (IPRN) in the development and dissemination of knowledge
Support for new ITT providers
The TDA provides advice and guidance on becoming an ITT provider including:
- accreditation support
- flexible-based routes
- employment-based routes
- school-based routes
- modern foreign languages in the primary school
ITT partnership
Through the national partnership project (NPP) the TDA supported regional stakeholders to collaborate together in increasing capacity, quality and promotion of the school-based training placement. Since the project ended ITT partnerships have remained as a key area of work for the development directorate of the TDA. See also for link to relevant section.

TDA regional strategy
The regional reports for ITT are now available to ITT providers and other stakeholders.
They present regional, educational and ITT data by government office region, and can help to inform institutional planning, target-setting and benchmarking exercises.
