Training schools are expected to work in collaboration with partner schools, local authorities and higher education institution providers in order to support modernisation. Local authorities, initial teacher training providers and schools are encouraged to engage with the programme by working with local training schools.
Research carried out by training schools has shown that they have had a number of positive impacts on teaching and learning by:
- Improving recruitment and retention of teaching and support staff
- Developing more effective continuing professional development (CPD)
- Enabling schools to bring more adults into the classroom, benefiting students in a variety of ways
- Developing high quality induction programmes for new staff and new entrants to the profession, and enhancing career development for the whole school workforce
- Having a positive impact on partner schools’ initial teacher training and CPD activity
- Successfully taking on workforce remodelling and the provision of high quality training and development for support staff in a variety of roles
