Equality and diversity issues
Multiverse
Multiverse provides initial teacher trainers and trainees with a comprehensive range of resources focusing on the educational achievement of pupils from diverse backgrounds. It has been developed in response to the surveys which show that a significant number of NQTs still need support in teaching pupils with English as an additional language. The website is organised in six strands:
- race and ethnicity
- social class
- religious diversity
- bilingual and multilingual learners
- refugees and asylum seekers, and
- travellers and Roma
The resources range from ITT learning and teaching materials, research papers, government reports, articles from the media, case studies, and video clips.
Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC)
The new Commission, a non-departmental public body purpose is to reduce inequality, eliminate discrimination, strengthen good relations between people and protect human rights. The EHRC brings together the work of the three existing Commissions, the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE), Disability Rights Commission (DRC) and Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) in this new body. The CEHR will take on all of the powers of the existing Commissions as well as new powers to enforce legislation more effectively and promote equality for all.
