The standards were developed by the Employer’s Organisation in 2001 and the TDA took responsibility for them in September 2005 when our remit extended to include the whole school workforce.
We conducted a review of these NOS in 2006/07 with partners in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This was to ensure they remained fit for purpose and reflected changes in the role. Following the review, a new set of NOS, entitled "NOS for supporting teaching and learning in schools", was introduced. These broaden the original standards to encompass new roles and responsibilities.
The original NOS for teaching/classroom assistants can be downloaded from this page; they are no longer available on the standards directory as they have been replaced by the new standards.
