Preparation for assessment

The purpose of preparation is to make candidates aware of the requirements of the assessment process and to ensure they understand and can provide evidence of the HLTA standards.

Preparation is carried out by providers of preparation (PoPs) in each region, who are approved and quality-assured by the regional provider of assessment (RPA).

When selecting PoPs to deliver preparation, a local authority (LA) may be guided by the advice and recommendations of their RPA if required.

The PoPs' role is to ensure candidates:

  • understand the HLTA standards
  • are briefed on the assessment tasks
  • receive feedback on their draft responses
  • are prepared for a visit by an assessor

Further details on the preparation process is available in the Handbook for providers of preparation and assessment, which can be downloaded from Resources. See right-hand column for link.
