In March 2005 the school workforce development board (SWDB) published an interim plan Building the school team: our plans for support staff training and development 2005-06.
This plan identified three early priorities for school support staff:
- remove barriers
for example by providing better access to training and development information and by helping schools to access funding;
- improve supply
for example by ensuring support staff have the training they need, when and where they need it; and
- strengthen quality
for example by developing a framework of skills and competences for each school occupation and by finding ways to increase the impact of training and development on day-to-day practice.
