The draft map has been constructed by the Agency with support from practitioners, local authority leads, the National Academy of Parenting Practitioners (NAPP) the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC), Lifelong Learning UK Sector Skills Council (LLUK) and Warwick University's Centre for Educational Development and Research (CEDAR). CEDAR has carried out the evaluation of the PSA pilot.
It draws on the analysis of practice developed through the PSA project, operating across schools in 20 local authorities, and consideration of similar school-based parent support roles.
Once complete and agreed, the functional map will be used to inform the development of appropriate National Occupational Standards and qualification frameworks. Local authorities will also be able to use it to support role definition, service development, the construction of job descriptions and practitioner support and development.
In addition, we are proposing that the principles and values based developed to support the Working With Parents National Occupational Standards (WWP NOS) is adopted in support of the PSA role, with an addition relating to multi-agency working.
