Are you ready for your QTS skills test? Many trainee teachers have taken the tests successfully the first time around, and you can, too. Use the pages in this section of the website to understand, prepare for, and succeed in the QTS skills tests.
Before you take your test you will need to:
- brush up on the subject knowledge covered in the tests
- review the content of each skills test, and
- get ready for the QTS skills test by taking a practice test. You'll discover what skills will be tested, become familiar with the test format and find out where to focus additional study.
We have produced a range of resources to help you to familiarise yourself with the test formats and, if necessary, improve your skills in the areas covered by the tests. The following pages provide:
- detailed information on the content covered in each test
- interactive and non-interactive benchmark tests
- interactive and non-interactive practice tests
- sample questions
- a glossary of key terms for each subject, and
- a list of further resources.
It is important to note that the available resources are not totally comprehensive. They are not intended to teach you everything you might be tested on in the skills tests. Also, you don’t need to work through all the available resources in preparation for your QTS skills tests. You should identify any areas in which you need support and use the resources on our pages to refresh your skills in these areas.
Guidelines on taking your QTS skills tests
In order to ensure as smooth a testing experience as possible, please follow our guidelines:
- You should register for the tests as soon as you get your registration number from your training provider, although please note that you do not need to make a test booking at the same time. Once you have registered you will be given a username and password, and you can use these at any time when you are ready to make your bookings.
- Use the resources available on this website to prepare and practise for the tests.
- When you feel confident and ready, book your tests. Remember, you will need to have registered first.
- Before you go to the test centre, read the information in the Taking the tests section, especially those on ID requirements and test rules. Learning about the QTS skills tests administrative details can be just as important as knowing the answer to a test question and it might save you a wasted journey. If you do not have the correct ID with you on the day of your test, you will not be allowed to take the test and will need to rebook.
You will know your results immediately after your tests. Visit the Test results page to find out how your results are recorded and how they are made available to your training provider.
