There are approximately 50 test centres throughout England, a large number of which are located within initial teacher training providers. Other test centres are located within schools, further education colleges and private training centres. The majority of test centres have between five and eight test machines.

Opening times vary between centres. Test centres are generally open for at least 18 hours a week, between the core hours of 9am and 4pm. Each week test centres are required to offer a proportion of their hours outside of the core hours. Some test centres are also open at the weekends. Test centres are open longer during the busy months of October and November, and shorter during July and August when demand is low.
