Test content

The ICT skills test covers a wide range of ICT skills using five software applications:

  • presentation
  • e-mail
  • text editor
  • spreadsheet; and
  • browser.

You will be expected to complete a number of computerised tasks using each of these applications.

Test marking

You must pass the test overall and do not necessarily have to pass every section of the test. Each of your responses carries one mark. Marks may be obtained from any part of the test and will count towards a total score. Each test contains five tasks and each of these tasks contains four sub-tasks. Each task carries between 5 and 7 marks.

Marks are awarded for completing the tasks as indicated by the task statement. It may be possible to complete some tasks in a number of different ways. It is, however, recommended that you do so in an as efficient manner as possible. For example, when changing all instances of the year 2004 for the year 2005 in a document, it would not be an efficient use of ICT to read through the document looking for each instance of 2004 and replacing it with 2005. The 'find and replace' tool can be used to find every instance of 2004 and replace it with 2005.
