Other national occupational standards relevant to school support staff

The TDA represents the training and development needs of the schools sector; however some job roles are represented by other sector bodies (SBs) and sector skills councils (SSCs). We are committed to working with these organisations to ensure the specific needs of school staff are considered when standards and qualifications are developed.

Sector skills councils and sector bodies

Sector skills councils and other sector bodies develop national occupational standards and ensure qualifications developed for their sector are fit for purpose and meet the needs of employers.

Sector skills councils are independent, UK-wide organisations developed by groups of influential employers in industry or business sectors of economic or strategic significance. SSCs are employer-led and actively involve trade unions, professional bodies and other stakeholders in the sector.

A sector body has the same functions as an SSC, however their footprint (those roles covered by an SSC/SB) may overlap. The TDA is the SB for the school workforce in England. Our footprint overlaps with other SSCs/SBs, for example school caterers would fall within the footprint of People 1st SSC.

If you would like to know more about the SSCs and SBs and how they can help you, visit the UK Commission for Employment and Skills website.

The tables below identify which SSC/SB represents your job role. By visiting their website you will be able to find more information on national occupational standards specific to your role.
