Background
Heathfield is in rural East Sussex and has a large catchment area covering farming communities and small towns. The 1,400 pupils are aged between 11 and 16 and around 300 are on the special needs register. The success of the school in dealing with special needs has led to it being designated as a centre of excellence for speech, language and communication difficulties.
