NVQ for teaching/classroom assistants

The national vocational qualification (NVQ) for teaching/classroom assistants (TA/CA) was replaced by the NVQ in supporting teaching and learning in schools in early 2008.

If you already have a TA/CA NVQ you do not need to retake your qualification as a result of this but you may benefit from updating your skills and knowledge. The career development guidance provides information on how to use national occupational standards to help identify training and development opportunities.

There will be a transition period when people who have started the TA/CA NVQ will be allowed time to complete their qualification. New candidates will start on the revised NVQ when they are available in early 2008. If you have any questions about the new NVQ or the transition period, contact your training provider or awarding body.

The TA NVQ is offered at levels two and three of the national qualifications framework.

The qualification structures are available to download from this page. Check with the awarding body or training provider to find out what optional units they deliver as not all providers will offer the full range.
