Draft revised HLTA standards (2007) - consultation

This consultation has now closed.

A consultation on the draft revised HLTA standards is available online from 5 March to 25 May 2007.

The consultation is for anyone with some knowledge or experience of HLTA status or with an interest in wider workforce development in schools. All staff in schools are being encouraged to take part in the consultation.

The draft revised standards will also be reviewed during a series of regional HLTA standards review workshops during March, April and May 2007.

Before you complete the online consultation

  • We suggest you print the draft revised standards (Word format, 68 KB) and review them before completing the consultation, referring to them as necessary when answering the questions.
  • You can also read a summary document (PDF format, 421 KB) with the overarching views expressed in phase one of the consultation (autumn 2006).

The professional standards for higher level teaching assistants (HLTAs) were published in September 2003 following widespread consultation. The standards were developed as part of the Government’s programme to raise standards and increase career progression opportunities for support staff.

What happens next?

The outcomes from both the online consultation and the consultation workshops will be used to inform the revisions made to the draft standards. The revised standards will then be submitted to ministers for approval in June 2007.
