DCSF school workforce census
The DCSF collect data on the school workforce on an annual basis via the Annual School Census and the 618g survey of Local Authorities. 

Research and evaluations

Bursar development programme (National College of School Leadership, NCSL)
The TDA works on the bursar development programme in partnership with NCSL, who deliver the certificate and diploma of schools business management courses.  An evaluation of the programme is ongoing. 

Deployment and impact of support staff in schools (Institute of Education) strand 1, wave 2 findings - 2006   
The first large scale study of support staff commissioned by the DfES will include 3 biennial surveys to analyse change over time, along with more detailed analysis of the deployment and impact of support staff in a school sub-sample. This five-year study commenced in January 2004 and is examining the characteristics and deployment of support staff, the impact of support staff on pupil outcomes and teacher workloads, and how impact is affected by school management and communication in the school.
