CPD in practice: improving on good CPD provision

Castle School: improving on good CPD provision

Castle School is an 11-18 comprehensive in Gloucestershire; it is a large school with 1716 students on two sites and achieved investors in people status in 1997.

The school had well-established continuing professional development (CPD) provision and concentrated on developing this further, in a number of ways.

What the school learnt

The school found that developing CPD provision provided an unexpected source of CPD for two members of the support staff who took a leading role. They developed professionally to a significant degree by undertaking research, managing evaluation surveys, writing an induction pack and newsletters, and arranging notice boards. The school is now looking to give them more senior roles reflecting their ability to deal with such responsibilities.
