The course was absolutely amazing, mind blowing. Talk about light-bulb moments – it helped me make links between all sorts of things. It was fantastic. I’m a better teacher because of it. My lessons are far more interesting and, as I can now make the links myself, I can pass this on to the pupils.
The conversations we students had on the course were as important as the lectures. We exchanged stories and techniques and just talked about maths incessantly. It’s made me more passionate about the subject. I’m reading more about it and I’m trying new things as a result – my pupils have no idea what to expect in each lesson!
I’m enjoying teaching maths much more now and my pupils are much more enthusiastic as a result. I’m more creative and they are more creative. I’m more enthused and they are more enthused.
The workload on the course was tailored to what I was doing in the classroom. It was very practical and hugely useful. For example the algebra we learnt fitted straight into my teaching work. I always came away from the course with lesson plans that I could use in school.
I’ve never laughed so much as I did in the group. We had so much fun. It was a brilliant group.
The workload wasn’t too bad at all – the main thing was producing cover lessons for when I was away. I enjoyed the coursework. I could always see the benefit. It opened my eyes to different ways of doing things. I was coming back into school full of what we’d been doing on the course. My colleagues were very receptive and we discussed what I’d learnt so they could draw on some of the ideas too. They often added to what I learnt so we got an even richer mix.
I was disappointed when the course finished. It was that good. Really I’d like a second year.
I’m a better maths teacher now. I have some skills my colleagues don’t have and I’m able to cascade this new knowledge to them. I feel more confident and able, and I feel an equal to my colleagues in the maths department now.
My long-term goal is to lecture for trainee teachers so I can pass on the amazing things I learnt on this course. It was a life-changing thing. I’m so glad it came along.
