Why is the career entry and development profile useful?

The career entry and development profile (CEDP) is a working resource focused on you. It suggests questions, encourages flexibility and helps you review your progress. It can help you prepare for meetings with tutors, and identify priorities. It can be used as part of other profiling or recording systems that your initial teacher training (ITT) provider, school or local authority may introduce you to.

The CEDP is not the record of your progress towards qualified teacher status (QTS) or core standards. It is not an assessment tool, reference or testimonial. It should be used as part of, and to support, other professional development and shouldn’t be seen as an isolated document.

How do I answer the questions?

The CEDP lets you choose how to record your responses to the prompt questions. You can adapt the sample formats, or you can use other recording formats. You do not need to write at length unless you want to. You can also include material from other sources, such as school placements or professional development records. You do not need to reproduce this material, but can include notes in your profile indicating where other evidence can be found.

The prompt questions are designed to help you think constructively at different stages. You may also wish to ask yourself other questions about how you can develop further. What matters is the process of reflection and professional discussion, and this will be shown in your notes.

However you choose to record your responses, your tutor will need to sign a confirmation of your discussions at transition point one.

Download the transition point one confirmation and other materials.

How do I access the CEDP?

You can download transition points one, two and three, as well as sample formats for recording your responses, setting objectives and writing action plans. You can save drafts, cut and paste from other documents, and attach them to e-mails.

Download CEDP materials

If you want to produce new material, collect existing evidence or record where else evidence can be found, there is also a structured hard-copy folder where you can build your profile. This is available from your ITT provider.

How do I get a printed copy?

You can ask your training provider for a folder, order one from our publications library or download a PDF version of the CEDP folder dividers. If you have not yet received your CEDP folder, please contact your training provider.
