Induction standards and assessment

Towards the end of each term of your induction period you should meet your induction tutor and/or headteacher for a formal assessment. The main focus is your progress towards meeting the core standards.

After each of the first two meetings, the headteacher should make a report to the local authority or, where appropriate, the Independent Schools Council teacher induction panel (ISCtip). This should record your progress towards meeting the core standards at the end of induction.

Meeting the standards

After the assessment meeting towards the end of the third term, your headteacher will make a recommendation to the local authority/ISCtip about whether you have met the core standards. The local authority/ISCtip will decide whether you have met the requirements for satisfactory completion of the induction period, and pass their decision to the General Teaching Council for England (GTC). The GTC will then let you know whether or not you have passed – if you have passed, they will issue a certificate.

Here you can find guidance on how you will be assessed during induction, the standards you need to meet and how these relate to your development. You can download the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) induction assessment forms from the Teachernet website.
