Applying for a course

We suggest you apply for the course a term in advance of when you want to start. This will allow enough time to process your application and complete an interview and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.

Register online

You can register your interest in attending a course online.

Once you have completed the registration form, your request will be referred to either your nearest course provider, or one of your choice. They will contact you directly to discuss what their course can offer you. If you are interested, they will send you an application form directly.

Register by phone

You can also register on the Returning to Teach programme by phoning 0845 6000 993. An education consultant will pass your details onto your nearest course provider, or one of your choice, who will contact you directly.

What happens after I register?

The course provider will contact you directly with relevant information on the course and an application form.

When you have returned your application form to the course provider, they will assess you against their eligibility criteria and decide whether to offer you a place, based on your suitability.

If you have any questions about this process please contact the Returning to Teach service on: 0845 6000 993 or e-mail info@return2teach.tda.gov.uk.

Contact course providers directly

You can search for course providers and contact them directly.

Safeguarding children − Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks

All teachers and support staff working in schools today must complete a CRB check. If you are successful at interview, your course provider will organise your CRB check for you.

The CRB check can take up to six weeks. You cannot begin the school placement section of the course until it has been completed.

Find out more about the CRB check.

Places available

The TDA funds up to 65 returners courses a year, offering up to 1,100 places. Returners courses are limited to a guaranteed 18 participants per course, so it is important to apply early to avoid disappointment.
