Success of course completers

Returning teachers account for 29 per cent of the total inflow into teaching each year with 13,390 returning in 2004/05. They represent 51 per cent of part-time entrants to the profession.

Many of these former teachers have attended a returners course or taken advice from the Return to Teach service on how best to prepare themselves to successfully return to the classroom.

The majority of returners who have attended a course state that their confidence and readiness to return increased as they were supported by course leaders, tutors, teachers on their school placement and returner peers.

 quotes

I would encourage anyone else who is considering a return to the classroom to try the course.
I’m sure they will be amazed at what they remember and what a fulfilling job teaching still is

− Georgia Dobson, who completed a secondary course at Roehampton University

Quality assurance of courses

The TDA commissions an external evaluator to monitor returners courses throughout the year. This helps to ensure that the courses provide the right support and resources for former teachers wanting to return to teaching.

The TDA also commissions a returners course survey each term. This provides us with direct feedback from former teachers who have completed the course, ensuring that the Returning to Teach programme can continually improve and meet the needs of its participants.
