Gaining valuable experience

Voluntary and support work in schools

When deciding to return to teaching it might be useful to consider getting some current classroom experience. You can contact a school near you, or your local authority, who will support you in making these arrangements.

School placement

Many schools may be willing to organise a school placement directly with you. It is important that you determine what you want to achieve during this time. You may decide to visit to a school to help you draw up your action plan.

Supply work

Supply work will give you an opportunity to experience working in a classroom, but it may not always offer you the support you would receive from a school placement or voluntary experience. There are 74 agencies that hold the prestigious Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) Quality Mark.
